I recently swapped out an old TV I used as a monitor for a new 4K Vizio, but now the colors look weird. At first I thought it was just a settings or Windows problem, but after checking everything I tried, even after rebooting my PC the BIOS boot screen still shows the same issue. This has happened before with TVs I’ve used as monitors for years—never had this before. I don’t have another HDMI cable to test, and the cable worked fine on my other monitor. I’ve gone through all the TV settings and even set it to PC mode, but nothing helps. What could be causing this?

Adjust the TV to 1080p settings via Windows Display options. Ensure your cable doesn’t support 4K. Consider refresh rate—HDMI cables typically handle 30Hz, but higher rates are possible with certain cables. HDR support varies; some require specific subsampling that may not match your TV. For RTX 3000 models, check for driver updates to fix boot issues with 4K displays when the monitor isn’t active.

Hey @Thaldor, thanks for the clear details. I adjusted the refresh rate to 30 and kept it there, but the display still shows 1080p at boot. Once Windows starts, it jumps to 4K. I haven’t been home yet to test lowering the resolution. I also disabled HDR and Windows settings without fixing the issue. On the TV, HDR was off but colors shifted—now it’s all blue or vice versa. In the Nvidia panel, the color profile was set to ycbcr420 and couldn’t be changed. When I lowered the refresh rate back to 30, I could pick RGB output, but it didn’t resolve the problem. I’m now looking for a HDMI 2.1 cable at the store, thinking there might be a setting that needs adjusting before Windows boots.

Yes, you can try another HDMI source to verify if the TV is displaying the image correctly.

It appears the setup isn't quite matching expectations. My PC runs on a Samsung 65NU8000 TV that handles 60Hz at 4K and 120Hz at 1440p. When I connected my PC, I struggled to get refresh rates above 30Hz, even though the TV worked with other devices like my Xbox. After some troubleshooting, I enabled "HDMI UHD Color" (HDR) on the input, which unexpectedly boosted the refresh rate to 120Hz. It seems there might be an unrelated setting affecting the picture quality. Hope this helps!
