Current setup: My pool controller is only visible when connected to my local Wi-Fi via an app on my phone. It disappears outside the local network. Goal: Leverage the built-in WireGuard VPN on my Asus ET12 Pro router so my phone can join the local network while traveling, then connect to the local adapter and activate the pool system. The aim is to appear as though I’m physically present, making the controller appear in the app. I believe this configuration would let me access devices normally if the VPN permits local access. I’m aware there are many alternative approaches, but this seems like the simplest path. This post doesn’t include detailed technical steps or controller information; I just want to confirm my understanding makes sense. I haven’t found any official support guide explaining how to view local devices through a router VPN while abroad.

You can configure a WireGuard server using the Asus router app, upload the settings to your mobile device, and connect to your local network from anywhere. If your IP address changes frequently, you’ll need a way to obtain your public IP automatically. The software should also include DDNS support for this purpose. For more details, check Asus’ FAQs here: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1048280 and https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1011725. Make sure to install the latest firmware to ensure WireGuard compatibility. Recent updates were posted on Reddit for this model: https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/y...pdate_for/

You're clarifying what you need assistance with regarding this setup. Have you already tried configuring it and encountered problems? Are you uncertain about a particular step? Or are you simply checking if it will function before making changes? The main concern seems to be how the app identifies the heater controller. There could be issues if your router doesn't forward traffic from the app to the controller using broadcasts or multicast, though this might be adjustable in your router settings.
