You're facing a common challenge with dual-boot setups. Since you want to keep your current OS intact, consider using a live USB or CD to install CloudReady without affecting it. Alternatively, explore lightweight operating systems like Linux distributions designed for older hardware, which often run smoothly on minimal partitions.

Checked the size of the hard drive or SSD on the laptop. Is there enough room to set up and run another operating system alongside it?

I have more than 400GB of available space. Only 8GB is required just to set it up, yet I intend to allocate around 50GB for it.
