Looking for a file server solution suitable for a Windows 10 laptop.
Requirements: installable, compatible specs—Intel Atom N550 dual-core @1.5GHz, ~700MB RAM, 200GB storage, free or open-source, optional internet access.
It shouldn’t be overly fast but should function properly on the given hardware.
Any suggestions you have?

Share the folders using Samba. It seems you want something lighter than Windows built-in features.

Are you intending to connect this file server solely within your local network or also outside of it? If restricted to your local network, utilize the built-in Windows tools. For broader access, consider configuring a FileZilla server, with further details available here.

Open the built-in share option in the folders properties. This method utilizes an SMB share.

Thanks for the update. After some adjustments to the permissions, everything is functioning properly. It's working well now!

200gb for a file server seems limited. Also, placing it on a laptop isn't advisable because it would require constant operation so users can upload files. The best solution I've discovered is setting up a network drive. This works in Windows 10, but I'm using Windows Server 2012 R2 instead.

It's even more useful because you can connect the network share to any computer in your home, and you can also create a private VPN to access the shares remotely.
