I bought a Dell PowerEdge T40 to try setting up file storage and running some game servers. The system has an Xeon E-2224G processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 480GB SSD with plans to add more storage but first focus on the RAM upgrade. I need to replace the RAM. Here’s the link to the server you mentioned: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/povw/poweredge-t40 The RAM module in this machine is a single Samsung 8GB 1Rx8 PC4 2666V ED2 11 DIMM. The motherboard supports dual-channel with four slots. I purchased this specific DIMM from Amazon, but it isn’t working—no booting in dual channel and failing to start if only that stick is installed. It works fine with the original Samsung unit. Did I get the wrong type? Could the seller be unreliable and the part defective? Should I return the RAM and order a new one from Newegg? Need advice! Thanks!

Purchased Registered ECC RAM. You require standard unbuffered ECC memory, otherwise it's not suitable. Good options include Kingston 8GB 288-pin DDR4 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Server Memory Model from KSM24ES8/8ME on Newegg.com and Crucial 16GB DDR4 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Server Memory from CT16G4WFD8266.
