A few months ago, my home server started having trouble connecting to the internet. When I run a command called ipconfig, it shows up with an address that starts with 169.254. This tells me the server can't talk to the router or DHCP because of its IP settings. Even though this usually means a network glitch, networking isn't my best skill at fixing things right now, and I don't know what to do about it. Only one thing on my computer is acting up - all my other devices are pulling normal addresses like 192.168.x.x normally. If you could help me fix this, it would be amazing because cloud backup for my server data isn't working right now in its current state.

Is this just another computer for the internet? How is it linked? If it's connected by wires, you should always make sure to put a new factory-made copper ethernet wire straight from the server to your router. If that connection works fine, then start moving the end of the cable with the router down your network line.

I'm pretty certain the server used to have a fixed IP address since I set up port forwarding rules on my router. Something weird happened along the way. I will try fixing the network adapter settings later, when I don't need to rush home or stay busy.

Here is another tip: Open your Command Prompt and type in a command like ipconfig /all without using the quotation marks around it, then send me back the output.
