Server for School Systems
Hi, I have some understanding of servers and users, but I’m not sure how schools set up their systems. When I use a school computer, I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and are asked for a username and password. Once logged in, it works the same for everyone else. I assume the school uses a file sharing setup where users can access files through Windows File Manager, but I’m not sure if someone on the server could log in directly to Windows. If you’re not clear on what I’m saying, no worries—I try my best to explain. Thanks for your help!
at my school we use a windows server running windows server 2012. each student is registered and grouped into workgroups based on age or course, with each having their own document folder on the server. this allows every school computer to access the shared data. teachers also have access but with different permissions so they can view certain files. let me know if you need more details.
That's a typical active directory domain. The server contains centralized credentials and permissions for everyone. When windows is installed it is joined into the domain, so when you log in the PC polls the server to validate your login against the PC you're on. That's how you can use the same login everywhere. You can do permissions via a group (student) or via individuals (sweaty IT dude), it depends what you're trying to do.
