Seeking suggestions to address your Wi-Fi coverage problem.
Hello i am having issues with the wifi range recently and i can not decide on how to proceed. My issue started when i wanted wifi in the detached garage. I bought a small plug in wifi Extender placed it in the back enclosed porch (Tp-Link AC 1200 RE305) and got it up and going. But i only have signal right inside the garage doorway after that it drops hard. The extender is only 20ft from the router and only has 2 walls in the way. what i should buy to replace the current extender? The distance isn't so bad it is only about 30 ft from the house. Would i benefit from a new router more? (current is netgear AC 1750 r6350) ? or should i just upgrade the extender ? (I had plans to wire the garage with Ethernet but the driveway is in the way for underground and trees prevent overhead). I have no idea what to do. (i will ad a crude diagram of my setup)
My issue with the cable is the tree on the right has ridiculous roots and i cant dig a trench to bury it. and the driveway is on the left. I imagine that going overhead would be my only solution for a cable run but im afraid the tree will drop a big ass branch on it and ruin my cable. would you happen to know of a better range extender to look into ? some that would reach a lot father?
The cost isn’t an issue. My wife might cause some hassle if I use an overhead cable, but I’m curious about the specific gadget you were thinking of for this wireless setup.
Run the Ethernet cable through PVC pipes along the perimeter of the home, then continue along the driveway and up to the garage. You don’t have to bury it too deep—just a few inches below the edge so it stays tidy. At the main house entrance, connect the cable to a LAN port on your primary router. In the garage, plug it into an AP or wireless router set to AP mode.
I didn’t consider PVC requiring a deep installation. Buying the direct bury cable made me think it might be fine. Appreciate the help.
