Are there any suggestions for strong combat titles? You're interested in space exploration or large fleet battles, preferably with both elements. Building stations or a grid-based 4x layout with decent space travel could be appealing. You don’t want games focused on resource management or detailed construction like No Man’s Sky. I’ve tried several titles—Eve Online Rebel Galaxy Space Engine X Beyond the Frontier, X Rebirth, Threat X3, Union X3 Terra War Pack, and Limit Theory on Kickstarter—but the last one was canceled years ago.

It's great to hear! Stellaris is known for its depth and strategy.

Great choice, thanks for the suggestion. I'm planning to purchase it now after remembering it.

Minor note: I attempted to play it and both with kb/m and an Xbone controller, but the controls were really frustrating. Hope you have a different experience, especially if you use a hotas, but keep in mind it might be a bit rough.

Stellaris appears visually appealing. I bought it and several DLCs on GOG.com recently, but I haven't played them yet.

I utilize additional controller settings for my simulation games. My Elgato Streamdeck XL works well with a custom button layout for macros or rare commands, which has proven effective in simulators and 4x titles. I also rely on a mix of Belkin Nostromo N52 and Razer Tartarus Chroma keyboards for inputs like WASD alongside a mouse. My setup includes a Logitech G920 steering wheel and pedals, plus a Wingman Extreme USB joystick, Xbox USB gamepad, and Logitech F310 gamepad depending on the game.

Space Engineers works well with friends. I haven’t examined it closely, but Astroneer is also worth checking out. If you're interested in a space RTS, the Homeworld Remastered Collection on Steam is a good option. I really enjoyed the original versions (also included with the Steam package), but the remake versions are also solid, and possibly more appealing for those not nostalgic.

Thank you for your input. It seems these titles aren't the right fit for what you're seeking. Astroneer and Space Engineers focus more on resource collection rather than exploration or combat. Astroneer is a stylized simulation with basic animations, aimed at younger players. The Homeworld Remastered Collection is an RTS format, which doesn't match your description of exploration or simulation combat.
