We purchased this router to boost the wireless signal throughout our home. With ten devices potentially connecting simultaneously, the old Asus RT-N600 struggled to manage the traffic. Four of them used Ethernet connections—PC, PS4, Xbox, and PS3. Honestly, I’m unsure how to configure anything beyond the simplest settings. We might have four phones streaming video or using social media while two consoles run at once. Our internet speed is modest, starting at 24.1 Mbps download and 96.2 Mbps upload according to a speedtest from an iPhone 8. I’ve observed that wireless connections can become slow or weak on my phone, especially during gaming. I’m wondering if there’s a way to guarantee the consoles have enough bandwidth for online play. We reside in a rural area with no nearby Wi-Fi sources close enough to cause interference. Apart from the relay tower we’re connected to, we’re fully wired, which might explain the unusual upload speeds. Could some devices be using the 5GHz band while others stick to the 2.4GHz band, causing your phone to slow down? Our NAT settings for gaming are consistently Type 2/middle (double NAT on Xbox). Other than that, I suspect our connection passes through a switch in the tower, which could be affecting the NAT configuration. A quick remark: Our ISP competes with two other providers in the region, all using radio towers. We’ve noticed network drops throughout the day, sometimes lasting a week or two before resuming. If we reach out to our ISP about this, they say there are no issues for a couple of weeks, then the drops return. What might be behind these interruptions? I’m not trying to question their service, but it’s really annoying during our limited free time after work. They’re local businesses, not national players. Any suggestions could be appreciated? Our family has a strong relationship with them, so any advice would be welcome. I think I’ve covered everything. Lol, I hope someone can help with this mess.
