Seeking additional memory for laptops equipped with two GPUs.
I don’t have deep computer skills, but I learned that on my Dell Inspiron 5559 with an i5-6200U and AMD R5 M335, the GPU has 4 GB of RAM reserved for itself. That means it’s locked for that specific process. You can usually disable the GPU so it uses more of your available RAM, but you’ll need to check your system settings or BIOS options for that.
The iGPU utilizes your computer's RAM instead of the GPU's VRAM.
It's not possible to disable the iGPU through BIOS settings since it's managed by hardware. However, some laptops allow adjusting the IGPU VRAM allocation, which determines how much RAM the iGPU uses for VRAM. You might be able to set it to as low as 64MB.
