Hey! I’m facing a weird issue that’s hard to solve. My monitor randomly turns black while I work in Wordpad, join Zoom calls, or use Google Docs (not spreadsheets). It only happens when I’m not doing anything heavy like gaming or streaming. Sometimes it clears everything and leaves the page white, but then text appears when I highlight or scroll. The problem gets worse with more documents, sometimes flashing several times a minute in the worst cases.

I’ve checked drivers, BIOS settings, and everything is up to date. Reformatting didn’t help either. I don’t have screenshots, but maybe recording a short video on my phone could help. My system details are: Windows 10 Home, 22H2, 19MB, 64-bit. It says 10.0.19045, build 19045. I own a Kingston Fury 32GB with 16GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, and an ASUS Radeon RX 6700 XT.

Let me know if you’d like to try capturing it on video!

During a Zoom call, is the connection using the browser? Does the whole screen or just the browser appear to be shaking? Is this happening while scrolling or consistently? It might point to a problem with browser hardware acceleration. There could be other factors involved too.

I rely on the Zoom application. Yes, it covers the whole screen, and it can occur at any time—sometimes I’m just reading without typing, yet it still happens. No idea about the browser’s hardware acceleration. Last week I attended a fullscreen Zoom session with my browser open in the taskbar, no other windows visible. Does this provide any clues for identification?

I should have included that early on, but didn’t think about it: when a game is running, I’ll press Tab to exit and then return, only to notice it sometimes freezes briefly. Usually I can fix it by restarting and reopening the game, but there were three times this didn’t work. I then cleaned up my computer settings, and it stopped functioning.

Unusual experience with HDR and display configurations. Consider experimenting further, though it might involve several factors.

I'm going to give it a shot and check if anything improves. Writing again now should help me explore those adjustments. Thanks for your feedback! It looks like turning off the "gaming mode" might be the fix, so my GPU likely needs a moment to settle before things freeze.

I've adjusted the configurations on my monitor and GPU, but the black flashes keep happening. It seems my monitor doesn't support HDR and is stuck on SDR mode (possibly the same thing). My settings are set to 144Hz with a response time of 1ms. I'm not sure if I'm checking the right place for the adjustments—I've checked the GPU software, "AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition," but forgot to add my monitor in the first post. It might be an issue.

Another update: my monitor went all black after a loading screen in WoW. Sound still functioned. I couldn’t reset the monitor using CTRL+SHIFT+Windows+B, so I had to cut power and restart the computer. This leads me to think it’s a GPU problem. No crash logs were saved by the AMD software, but I did report the issue to AMD. If anyone knows what could be causing this or the strange flickering screen, any advice would be greatly appreciated! I also replaced my HDMI cable just to eliminate that possibility. It didn’t help.
