Hi everyone, I'm trying to prevent users from saving files locally on their desktops. I use OneDrive for business files and often face issues with outdated versions or files stored elsewhere. Do you know how to set this up or what steps I should take?

GPO/Local Group Policy: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop > Hide and Disable All Items on the Desktop. EDIT: This doesn't completely block saving to the desktop, only prevents dragging items outside the desktop folder in File Explorer. To fully stop it, adjust permissions so they lack write or modify access to %userprofile%\desktop. You can set these permissions via a computer policy: Computer Configuration > Policy > Windows Settings > Security Settings > File System.

You're asking about preserving default icons such as the recycle bin, this PC, and user folders. It seems you want to prevent the desktop from being used as a save location for files. Let me know if you'd like guidance on how to achieve this.

Permissions should be limited to the desktop for reading only. Adjust settings via a computer policy: Computer Configuration > Policy > Windows Settings > Security Settings > File System, then assign the appropriate access for %userprofile%\desktop.
