At every LAN gathering I attend, I always come ready with backup options for nearly anything. I tend to be the sole person carrying many flash drives, and my go-to storage is usually an external SSD because of its speed. Previously, I relied on NTFS permissions which functioned well for a long time, but some users eventually learned how to modify them. It’s time to switch to a different method for securing personal files on my SSD. I only need to restrict access to a few specific files and still be able to retrieve them from any device, including Macs.

You have numerous flash drives—organize them wisely. Keep vital items on select drives, while less critical files can go elsewhere. Allow others to access the non-essential ones. Store the most important documents at home.

For your external SSD, consider using zip or rar files that require a password for access.

Bitlocker functions effectively for my needs, though it doesn’t protect against NSA. It’s compatible only with Windows, which has a built-in feature.
