We know the MS deadline is near, and I’m checking those claims about using Win7 to recognize Win10. Setting up a dual boot seems possible for both systems, though each is distinct. You can switch between them, but only one activation is active at a time. Since Win7 is being phased out, you’ll need to decide which OS you want to keep running.

Technically possible if you already have 7 active, you can set up 10 using your 7-key and it shouldn’t undo the 7 activation. However, this goes against the terms of service. It’s also likely that if you ever erased the 7 installation, the key wouldn’t work—though I’m not certain. Additionally, there are some scenarios where a 7-key might fail to activate a 10-install, usually related to OEM keys that don’t function properly.

Well, my backup is a disc. Probably the worst I could spend is $20-40 on another version of Windows Pro to unlock all my RAM. I have an unlicensed copy of Windows 10 on another drive for dual boot, but I’m not convinced about it. I’m just trying to decide what I need. I don’t like Windows 10 much and I ran into problems right away.
