Hello everyone,
Frequently waking up my PC leaves my second display blank, forcing me to log out or disconnect the HDMI/DisplayPort before it works again. This also occurs when monitors power back on while the system isn’t sleeping. It seems this could involve Windows, the graphics card, the monitors, or even the cables. I’m also experiencing minor issues like apps disappearing from the taskbar and occasional Chrome freezes. Do you have any suggestions for resolving the main problem? I’m open to a clean install if needed, and would really appreciate tips on backing up games, files, themes, and possibly avoiding reinstalling games from the secondary drive.
Does Windows recognize it? When you navigate to display settings and press detect, does it appear or not? Have you tried connecting it directly to the motherboard? Test by using only the monitor connected. If you need a fresh setup, choose to clean the main drive while leaving the second drive unchanged. In Steam, install games where they already exist—it will detect them without re-downloading. uplay offers a tool called locate existing game files or similar features.
It seems to function properly on the motherboard, so the issue might lie with the GPU. If Windows identifies it, the monitor could be faulty. Testing with only the connected monitor helps rule out the display problem. Try these steps to narrow down the cause.
When waking up and the second monitor shows a black screen, Windows identifies both displays but nothing appears, including no mouse cursor. I'm attempting to investigate further, but it's challenging to pinpoint the issue since the black screen isn't consistent. Appreciate the clean installation advice!
