Second screen remains inactive even during sleep...
Hey team, I've been dealing with this problem for a while now. It began a few weeks ago and seems to have stopped on its own. When I put my PC to sleep and then wake it up, the second monitor won't react—it just displays an image of what was on the screen at that moment, like during a live stream or YouTube video. I've reached out to Microsoft support without any assistance, spent hours searching online and reading forums, but haven't found a solution. Here are some steps I've tried: Restart the PC, put it to sleep and wake it again, adjust the power plan to prevent sleep, update Windows (they suggested MS support), installed different GPU drivers, ran SFC/Scannow DISM, unplugged the monitor, swapped power supplies or outlets, used different HDMI ports for the GPU, and finally looked for a driver update for the second monitor. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. My current specs are: AMD 5600, Asus B450M A-II, 32GB RAM, GTX 1060, 3GB RAM, running Windows 11.
Clarify the exact steps when you turn the PC back on. Does it immediately recognize the monitor and display the screen as expected? Can you switch the monitor manually and see if it picks up the signal again? What steps should you take to resolve the problem? This is confusing for me. Are you suggesting that the monitor is showing an outdated image from before it was powered off? The main aim is to figure out if the issue lies with your computer/GPU or the monitor itself. Do you have a laptop or another PC available for testing? Try to minimize other factors by using the same cable and following the same wake-up process on the second device. Does the problem occur consistently? If yes, it likely points to a firmware issue with the monitor.
I resolved it 10 minutes ago. To make sure, when the main monitor was on and the other was off, I could switch them on and off. In this recent situation, it was a twitch stream that was active, not just a static image. The fix was simply to leave the PC and monitor unplugged for 5–10 minutes, and it now works normally again until I restarted my computer later that day.
