I need to secure my personal PC by backing it up. I tried using Windows 10’s built-in tool, but many users say it isn’t the top choice or covers everything.

The optimal backup method involves storing multiple copies of your crucial data across different locations. You might recall the 321 idea—likely three copies in two separate places, perhaps one stored in the cloud? There are numerous free tools available for syncing and backing up directories. WD Backup is a free download you can use to automatically save selected folders. Alternatively, programs like Macrium Reflect allow you to back up specific disks or partitions. Do you have an external drive? That would be a good starting point, since you didn’t mention having one.

I prefer image-based backups like O&O Drive Image. If the drive fails, you can simply restore the backup onto a new drive, restart it, and resume operations smoothly. Other providers such as Acronis and Veeam also provide comparable solutions. Veeam suits professional settings, while Acronis occasionally encounters problems and displays vague error messages instead of clear troubleshooting details—something I've experienced in bigger environments. My usual choice for personal use remains O&O, based on my past reliability.

Sure, you could use a dedicated backup drive to keep your media safe.

I reviewed the Jays 2 Centz guide on Aomi backupper and assessed its suitability for regular backups. It appears to cover both monthly and weekly options, so it could work depending on your needs.

The free option has certain restrictions, so I wouldn't choose it. Instead, consider the Aomei Pro version for around $40-$50. For backup, capture a full image every few weeks and store it incrementally to keep a safe space.

The image can remain alongside other files in the same folder, or it may be backed up separately depending on your settings.

I can't confirm for AOMEI Backupper, as I rely on the O&O and perform off-machine backups onto a server with a mapped drive. There I created a folder structure containing the image files from those backups. Avoid backing up to the same system you're backing up—please store them on a USB SSD or HDD instead.

Using AOMEI seems reliable for sharing with other resources. I’ve tried it myself and found it quite effective. You can check out sales to secure a solid deal. Last year, they gave me a free license after purchasing their partition manager, but I ended up with the wrong plan. I reached out via email asking for a refund so I could buy the combo pack again, and they sent me a lifetime upgrade key for backupper pro. If you enjoy communicating with customer support and allow some time for replies, I might consider giving it a try.

That's great. I needed to purchase AOMI since I upgraded my OS to a new SSD, and I was lucky to get the paid version at a 50% discount for $25. I'm hoping it will protect those hidden game save folders and all my other data in file backup. If not, I might have to back up an image instead.
