I've explored various tools like Intelliscore and found recommendations from others. You're looking for software that converts audio to MIDI for ensemble scores, while also allowing guitar and piano composition without writing out notes. It would be helpful to use your existing PDF score app on an iPad for storing and reading scores, but scanned sheet music is difficult to work with. You mentioned wanting to play a piece, get it transcribed, save it as a clean PDF, and import it into ForScore. A USB microphone might be useful if you discover suitable software.

Since most folks aren’t into music right now... here’s what I discovered: Sibelius works well with a MIDI controller. Check out this 30-day test link: http://apps.avid.com/SibeliusTrial/ I haven’t tried Intelliscore yet. Finale also offers a free trial at http://www.finalemusic.com/free-trial/ and includes MicNotator, which matches what I was looking for. I haven’t used it with a Snowball mic, just my laptop’s built-in device, but it seems to function as needed. Unless someone comes up with something better, these are the options I’ve found.
