The board you receive is likely from a recent production run, which should support the Ryzen 3000, though this isn't certain. I’d check with the retailer about compatibility and consider asking them or a nearby store to update the BIOS for you. They might even offer it for free if you request it kindly.

The Asus Prime board at 42 euros works. It’s unclear if paying more than 10 euros extra for another A320 board is justified. You might look on eBay or local auction sites for a Ryzen 1200 or similar for about 50 euros, for instance: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Ryzen-3-1200-CPU...SwaXVe-gIA You can also locate a basic graphics card for around 10 euros or repurpose any existing hardware that isn’t built-in.

Unfortunately, mindfactory is promoting updates for 35€, which makes me really wish I didn’t have to pay for it. That’s quite a steep price for what they offer… Thanks for your assistance!

I understand, it's tough explaining this situation. But using a used car can be a great choice!

It's quite expensive, around €35, to just get a BIOS update installed. Maybe you could locate a used Athlon 200GE and update it yourself.

It’s close to adding 40 new and 30 used items. Would spending an extra 50€ on a 3400G be worthwhile compared to a 3200G?

AMD would likely provide you with a temporary 200GE just for this purpose, then request it be returned once you finished. I’m not sure if they still do that, but it’s possible. Alternatively, you might be lucky and the motherboard comes preloaded with an updated BIOS right away.

It depends; for a basic office setup or casual use, a 3200G is sufficient. The 3400G offers a marginally better GPU and SMT performance, but they discontinued those models. Updated August 2, 2020 by TofuHaroto
