12-18-2016, 06:51 PM #1I'm looking for newer motherboards that include IDE ports. My needs involve using them for modding old consoles and connecting vintage hard drives, plus maybe serving as a media center or plex server. An AM3+ build seems ideal, but the part picker doesn't have options for IDE controllers. I tend to avoid adapters since they can interfere with setup. A solid 40-pin 80-pin connection would be great. This is my first visit, so please forgive if I'm off the mark

12-30-2016, 07:39 AM #4The latest board likely running it will be using the x58 platform. My SR-2 seems to have one already. I think I should upgrade the PCI slot, maybe even on Z87 boards—those usually need a powerful CPU now but still offer solid performance today.

01-04-2017, 06:19 PM #10Confirmed - My Gigabyte 890FX-UD5 supports both IDE and floppy ports, making it a solid starting point. Only a handful of AM3+ boards offered this feature, but you'd likely be satisfied with that model if available. Pair it with a reliable 960T or even a Thuban 6-core chip, and you're good to go.
