Aim for improved performance and reliability with your new router. Quality of Service (QoS) enhances your internet experience rather than offering mysterious improvements.

I understand you're trying to manage bandwidth usage. With a 125MB/s connection, it might be tight depending on your usage. You can share your available portion with roommates or neighbors while keeping your own needs in mind. If you need help setting up fair sharing rules or monitoring usage, let me know!

Yes, you can assemble your own pfSense device. The official site provides detailed instructions to set it up and customize it further, including features like ad blocking and internet filtering.

QoS is an advanced option, it's unlikely you'll get a practical version for 125Mbit at that price. TP-Link AFAIK doesn't offer QoS in their firmware, especially on budget models. To make QoS effective, you need a powerful router because it significantly raises CPU usage.
