I possess a GPON router, modem, and switch package from the ISP (30/6 plan). The setup is underperforming with only 100Mbps Ethernet and limited control due to the locked-down combo device. Currently, I use an 8-port passive switch connected to a TP-Link access point, which helps reduce interference but causes connectivity issues in the backyard. I’m seeking better performance, expanded management, and more range for wired users. My goal is a solid solution for a two-story home with roughly 12–15 devices at full capacity, improved coverage, and enhanced control—within a budget of about $200 (allowing up to 10%). OpenWRT or DD-WRT support would be helpful but not essential. What options should I consider?

How about the unifi aps? Id probably get the wifi ax lite models, you can get abour 2 for $200. Id probalby keep the current router for now unless you have a reason to change it.

I'm not familiar with their offering at all. It fits within my budget, especially with a few extra options on switches. Thanks for the suggestion—I usually considered them to be "well above my pay grade." However, my main frustrations aren't about wireless connectivity but rather the absence of RJ45 ports and difficulty managing network traffic.

If you need additional RJ45 connectors, simply purchase affordable unmanaged switches. They function properly and are inexpensive.

Yes, you should chain another passive switch.

Sure, just ensure no loops are included and proceed.
