I have an i5 2500 and want to assemble a budget PC. I discovered a motherboard on eBay that matches a Dell manual. It claims support for the i5 series, but I’m unsure if it’s the right fit.

It should work well, but it lacks a common size for the front panel connections. It isn’t a typical design and doesn’t include standard input/output ports. I strongly advise against using it.

Could you clarify which part of the "Intel 6 Series Express Chipset" you're referring to? That would help narrow it down.

The product description says it's micro ATX, but you had trouble installing it in a PC case.

I'm not saying you couldn't, but it won't be as simple as dropping it in and plugging in some headers. The holes are likely in non-standard spots, so I won't match with standard case mounts. It says it's uATX, but I can tell from the pictures that isn't true (too few expansion slots; board is too deep); it's a board from an SFF Dell Optiplex. There's also no backplate, FWIW. An Optiplex 790 DT motherboard would be standard uATX, but probably still wouldn't have standard front header pinout.

You're welcome. I'll search for a different motherboard now.
