Here are some suitable game suggestions for a 12-year-old on a system with limited power: Portal 2, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Terraria, Dirt, Age of Empires III, Limbo, Mirror's Edge, Need For Speed, Most Wanted, Underground, The Run, Sims, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Amnesia (non-violent), Assassins Creed 2, Lego Star Wars. I’m open to more ideas and can use the extra storage space if needed.

castle crashers and battleblock theatre are really fun and not really violent I THINK? i mean in age of empires you still kill and destroy shit too so i don't really know what not violent would mean.

However, the age of empires belongs to a traditional strategy format, while first-person shooters seem to focus more on combat dynamics...

Rocket League isn't working well, unfortunately. She also needs him to steer clear of online stuff for now.

It's definitely Life is Strange. It doesn't push too hard. However, it may not be the best fit for a 12-year-old.

Rocket League offers a career mode against AI opponents. While competitive play appeals mainly to adults, the AI could suit a 12-year-old player well. A compatible gamepad, such as an Xbox controller, might influence suggestions for the game.

I wrapped up episode three last night and my mind got really mixed up after seeing Chole again in the present. I’m super pumped to begin the fourth tonight after college. I really hope he’ll play it through eventually, though I think it’s still a bit too mature for him sadly. I also had thoughts about Civilization, Spider-Man games, Blur, Prince of Persia: The Lost Sands, and Frozen Synapse.

It's intriguing, though I haven't tried it myself so I wasn't aware of the offline support. I'll think about it and discuss it with his mother. You know, the budget was really limited, but we could still find an affordable generic USB controller and use the X360CE.
