Seeking an MMORPG featuring an expansive universe, numerous collaborative and solo missions, crafting systems, essentially akin to Sao. The crafting mechanics aren't a major focus.

the game with everything you mentioned is WoW; if you don’t like it, try ESO and the latest notable title is Blade and Soul.

The closest match to an "ideal MMORPG" is currently FF14. While some players dislike it for being more about clicking than action combat, most RPGs share that trait. FF14 brings everything enjoyable from classic MMORPGs and polishes it into a contemporary experience. It meets nearly every standard: expansive worlds, various classes and roles, mounts, player accommodations, guilds (including free companies), dungeons, and big raids. All presented in a visually appealing modern format.

MMOs are becoming obsolete. Avoid spending your time on them.

Guild Wars 2 offers an enjoyable experience, while the traditional World of Warcraft remains a favorite for many. There are some free-to-play options such as Rift and Terra, though they appear to require payment to progress (though I haven't played them extensively). They seem to be worth trying at a quick look.

This game stands out as the sole MMO worth mentioning. Mostly it avoids being a generic, copied version of World of Warcraft.

Usually I recommend WoW, but unless you're brand new to the game there’s very little exciting to do until the next expansion drops this summer. Recently I’ve started enjoying SW:TOR because they’ve improved the story mode and leveling system, letting you progress through your class quests independently instead of being forced to finish every task in a region just to advance. In truth, my favorite part of SW:TOR is the narrative, but it still includes challenges like dungeons, raids, PvP, starship missions, and even multiplayer battles. They’ve also added player housing options. The game features expansive worlds tailored to your needs, though bonus quests are limited depending on your location. It offers many “Heroic” group quests that you can tackle weekly, and the server communities remain lively despite being mostly solo-focused. Wildstar could be worth checking out now that it’s free-to-play, but I didn’t play long enough, and Guild Wars 2 is also a solid option—though not my usual choice but definitely worth considering.

I'm really into Blade & Soul right now. I've been playing for a few days and haven't lost much interest. The combat mechanics seem really great.
