Searching for an affordable 2.5GBit switch.
Searching for an affordable 2.5GBit switch.
I understand this situation. The router is in a different room, which means all my other devices are affected. I have one cable connecting the router through the wall into that room, and it has a 2.5GBit port. I use a 1GBit switch to divide the cable on the other side, which works but restricts my PC to 1GBit. My internet connection is already limited to 1GBit. When I try to download from the internet while transferring files to or from my NAS, both tasks slow down.
TP-Link TL-SH1005 and TL-SH1008 offer the most affordable unmanaged switch choices currently. Ideal for the Chinese market, they're available on Aliexpress for about 55 USD. Review by STH is linked here: https://www.servethehome.com/cheapest-2-...08-review/
I purchased two TL-SH1005 units and one TL-SH1008 for testing. The TL-SH1005 tends to overheat easily, so I plan to modify it by adding more heatsinks to see if performance improves. I’ve tried several 2.5Gbe unmanaged switches; most have thermal problems, except the TP-Link TL-SH1005. I bought them on Taobao and used a forwarding clearing house to ship them to the US, which was significantly cheaper than purchasing from Aliexpress.
