I own a colour laser printer connected through an Ethernet cable on my router, which is linked to a PC via its Ethernet port. Everything seems fine so far. You're looking to simplify the setup by reducing cable clutter and switching your printer to wireless mode. A good wireless print server would be suitable for this purpose. Regarding connecting your printer through the wireless print server's Ethernet port instead of USB, that should work if the server supports it.

Avoid a wireless print server when network printing is available. Use a Wi-Fi Ethernet bridge to translate the connection.
