You've encountered a mismatch between the product keys displayed by your scripts. This could happen if the PowerShell query isn't pulling the correct license information or if the VBS file isn't interpreting the data properly. Double-check the script paths, ensure the licensing service returns valid entries, and verify that the key extraction logic matches the format expected by your installation process.

I don't understand, but keys on Kinguin seem very affordable. Does it really make a difference to just purchase a new one?

The product key with 10 is linked to your motherboard or Microsoft account. Signing in suggests it's tied to your MS account for convenience. For a smoother setup, consider linking it to your MS account. If you're reinstalling on the same device, the key should confirm itself automatically via the motherboard.

Confirmed @Smell My Name, this appears to be the same PC without any hardware changes. Just reinstall Windows and bypass the product key setup during initial configuration. Once on the desktop, it should start working automatically.

I'm doing this to upgrade the motherboard and CPU, installing a Ryzen 7 processor.

Microsoft has outlined clear procedures to get your system ready for the upgrade: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...vnpib2pu00 Because you moved from version 7 to 10, your Windows 10 license isn’t tied to a product key. Instead, it’s a digital license. To proceed, link your Windows 10 license to a Microsoft account, then sign in during reinstallation and use the activation troubleshooter. Refer to the provided link for full guidance.

You can definitely switch to the digital license. The original key isn’t necessary anymore. As for getting the old Windows 7 key, unfortunately there’s no legitimate way to retrieve it.

After upgrading to Windows 10, the Windows 7 activation key transforms into a digital license. The previous 7-key code remains functional if you recall its details, though this information isn’t saved in Windows 10 according to common knowledge.
