I have a workstation centered around animation and 3D graphics, but I'm realizing my Threadripper isn't up to the job. I'm thinking about switching to a Ryzen 9-like CPU (perhaps 5900X) for smoother Cinema 4D and particle effects. Right now I have 128 GB DDR4 RAM, two 3080 Ti graphics cards, and some NVMe drives. Would you suggest a motherboard that supports four GPUs? It seems hard to find one except the X570 Godlike, which appears to be out of stock everywhere. Thanks in advance!

For bandwidth requirements like x8 or x16 per GPU, consumer platforms won't meet your needs—you'll need to use Threadripper instead.

You're experiencing issues with your software needing more single-core performance and less reliance on multiple cores.

If you also require PCIe bandwidth, the situation is quite limited. The AM4 platform offers only 20 CPU PCIe lanes (16 for the CPU and 4 for the PCH). Although the PCH chip provides additional lanes, communication with other GPUs is restricted to 4 lanes per CPU core. After the initial few slots on AM4, most are reserved for PCIe 3.0 x4 connections.

It makes sense to hold off on the next Threadripper chips. The exact launch date remains uncertain.

The only available option with four PCIe slots is the MSI X570 Godlike. Your Gigabyte X570 Auros Xtreme supports three slots.
