Searching for a suitable server chassis and cooling system compatible with the Threadripper 3990X.
Our firm is considering transitioning to AMD and needs advice on scaling options. We currently have unused racks but have never installed a workstation in a server chassis before. I’m seeking guidance on fitting this in a server chassis versus using multiple towers that could clutter the room. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If this isn’t the best fit, let me know where to find the right discussion. Also, thanks for the parts list you shared—it looks solid. Please feel free to share your thoughts as well.
What exactly are you asking? Honestly, a 14s feels more like a tower cooler than a rack cooler. Regarding the AIO, in space-constrained situations it should work fine, though I’m not sure what kind of rack it is—unless you’re certain it fits. Do you already have these components? From what I see, a CL22 non-ECC RAM doesn’t look very strong unless you already own them.
We haven’t purchased the components yet; everything was assembled quickly. We’re expecting a large client soon and require additional capacity. The setup is quite adaptable—we might even acquire new racks. Right now, I’m looking for a Threadripper to fit in a server chassis.
we're not focusing on capacity here—it's just a cl22 (non-ecc) RAM subpart. Regarding cooling, an u14 should handle the 3990x just fine, and the same applies to the h100i. For clearance, that's what I mentioned. ^.
It sounds like you're describing something extremely quiet or subtle, almost as if it's barely perceptible.
