Searching for a suitable CPU cooler to match your setup.
I'm searching for a CPU cooler suitable for my i7 6700k. I want to overclock it to 4.5 and prefer a quiet model. My PC has a black and red theme, so noctua isn't available. Any recommendations?
Tell me more about the build, including the case model and RAM specifications.
haven't finalized a choice yet, unfortunately ram would be G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory 14 CL. the motherboard is still uncertain but should match, either the asus hero or asus hero alpha, and i'm still figuring out the differences between them.

According to the title, I need a CPU cooler for my i7 6700k. I'm aiming for an OC to 4.5 and prefer something quiet. My PC has a black and red theme, so Noctua isn't an option. Any recommendations?
Phanteks TC14PE is available in red. Remember, the top cooler won't reach 4.5GHz if the CPU doesn't work properly—and not every 6700K can achieve that speed at sensible voltages.
Not a fan of that CPU cooler, no pun intended. Why though? CPU performance varies, right? I believed the 6700K could easily be overclocked to 4.5 or more. Some others managed 4.6 and even 4.7. It really depends on factors. Also, I'm seeking high-performance coolers that are quiet—don't want my PC to sound like a jet taking off. Any recommendations?
14nm skylake performs well under load.
You'll hit the limits of vcore before you reach thermal capacity.
You should be able to achieve 4.5 with confidence.
Here’s the overview:
As of May 2016
How much can be overclocked with a reasonable 1.40v Vcore?
I7-6700K
4.9 2%
4.8 17%
4.7 59%
4.6 93%
4.5 100%
A standard tower cooler with a 120mm fan or more will suffice.
Cryorig H7 offers compact design and affordability.
The R1 provides strong cooling and supports a custom red mod:

Not really into that CPU cooler, right? But why? They're not all the same, are they? I thought the 6700k could easily be overclocked to 4.5 or more. Some others managed 4.6 and even 4.7. What affects it? Also, I'm searching for good performance coolers without being too noisy—don't want my PC to sound like a jet taking off. Got any other ideas?
Edit: For clarity, this is my build. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/WntH2R
No, they're not uniform. Not even close. You might land on 4.4 or even 4.9—this is why it's called the "silicon lottery." You'll likely hit 4.5 or higher, that's why people complain. It's just a frustration of mine.
Brudarion:
cryorig isn't available in my area, do you have other choices?
So no, no Noctua, no Phanteks, no Cryorig. You're aiming for a solid overclock, right? It's not easy.
What about liquid cooling? Options like Swiftech X/240/X220, NZXT Kraken X61, Corsair H115i/110i are top picks.
Haha, I wasn't really aware of that silicon lottery, but just hoping for the best. Still, 4,4 I believe it's fast enough for all tasks and games, honestly. I don't think 0,1 will be able to do much. Anyway, I'm a bit of a nerd, and I've been using a noctua nh d14 before. It worked great for four years, but now I want my second build to stand out more. So I'm sticking to a color theme—black and red, maybe with a red LED if possible. That's why I'm focusing on color because those Noctua units were good, but they looked so bad in my system. Regarding liquid cooling, I've never tried it before. I'm a bit nervous after hearing all the horror stories from IT stores about leaks and pump failures, plus I worry it might make my PC sound like a jet taking off. I just need a solution to my problem. Thanks for the help so far, but I really need something concrete.
