Searching for a reputable device supporting 2.5Gb or 10Gb speeds with dual-band NIC configuration.
Hello, I'm currently working on some performance tests with software that operates in a server-client setup. On the server side I have a 10Gb NIC, while my client machine runs with 1Gb, 2.5Gb, and 10Gb NICs (RJ45, not SPF). The challenge I'm facing is identifying a stable 2.5Gb card or one that lets me manually configure it. There aren't many reliable options available. I've tried the TEG-25GECTX which advertises EXSi support, but it appears to use Tehuti Networks chipset and even supports 10Gb in auto mode (the Intel X550-T2 doesn't work well). I'm forced to use a 2.5Gb cable instead. I could connect a 10Gb SPF+ transceiver from the server to a 2.5Gb RJ-45, but no suitable devices seem to exist. I also have a generic 2.5Gb I/O card (CREST SI-PEX24059) for $30 with mixed reviews and an unclear chipset. Essentially, I'm stuck. I need to test client performance at 1Gb, 2.5Gb, and 10Gb speeds, but most clients don't come with a built-in 2.5Gb interface (they're simpler). A PCIe-based solution would be ideal. Anyone know about options like the 10Gtek NIC that supports manual 2.5Gb mode? Any suggestions or alternative ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for sharing this info, trueCable. It looks like it fits our budget around $100 and includes most of what we’re looking for. We still need a few things—like 2.5Gb manual enablement, WoL, PXE and iSCSI support—but it’s a solid beginning. The manufacturer is responding quickly on the Amazon page, so I reached out there as well.
