Searching for a reliable Z97 motherboard.
Hello everyone. I'm searching for a solid Z97 motherboard. The models I've checked are the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 and 9 ACK, but anything above the 5 is tough to find locally (Germany). Used 3s and 5s cost between 150-200€. Key features needed: my setup is black and red, WiFi is a must (the 9 ACK supports it), an M.2 slot would be nice, and I'm slightly into overclocking. Future build plans include an i7 4790K MSI GTX 980 ti Gaming (or something that fits better within my budget when I can afford a 1080), 16GB DDR3 GSKILL ripjaws, 750W PSU, and a watercooled AIO case. My current build link is https://builds.gg/builds/budget-gamevr-rig-7849. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I already possess most components here. The 4790k is quite affordable, around 120-180€. Having been an Intel enthusiast for years, I’m a bit hesitant about switching to an AMD setup, though the 2700x only offers a slight improvement of 2-3% over the i7 4790k. I’ll also keep an eye out for alternatives. Is the 1080 Ti really necessary, or could a 980 Ti suffice? I don’t have much budget for top-tier cards.
Wrong, the 2700X has double the cores, that's a lot of increase in performance. And LGA1150 is a dead platform. With Ryzen there is an upgrade path so in the future you don't need to buy everything all over again... And that's expensive considering it's a 5 years old CPU. ???????? Doesn't make any sense. DDR4 is fairly cheap nowdays.
Compare Ryzen 2700x and i7 4790K using the provided link. Upgrading your current setup (i5 4690k, H87) for your girlfriend is on the mind—keep saving and check the results later.
