I discovered a sci-fi themed RTS that caught my attention—Surviving Mars. It was an engaging experience. However, I encountered a technical challenge while testing a strategy: I aimed to build a fully equipped colony with domes, storage, landing sites, etc., to support a massive population on Mars. Once the setup was complete, I intended to dispatch the first settlers to establish the base. The problem arose when the map reached full capacity and I began constructing buildings; the game would crash whenever I expanded the view. Over the past few months, I shared my troubles on various platforms, searched extensively, and even watched tutorials, but received no helpful answers. Initially, I suspected my hardware—powerful CPU, GPU, ample RAM, and a robust PSU—might be the issue. But I tested on a newer machine with an i910850K processor, RTX 3090, and 64GB RAM, running the game at 1080p on both my old and new PCs. The crashing only happened during zooming out, suggesting a software-related glitch rather than a hardware failure. My question now is: Are there other survival RTS titles available that could serve as alternatives to Surviving Mars? I’m currently researching and experimenting, especially after discovering Titanfall, which seems to fit the bill.

Frostpunk and Aven Colony Tropico aren't sci-fi, yet they could be quite appealing to you too.

They are billions, which is really impressive. It's an RTS game that incorporates a zombie theme. I explored the whole campaign in normal mode—it was tough but enjoyable.

Great, thanks! I’ve started going through a lot of games now. Regarding Surviving Mars, it’s working now—just pause the game, save your progress, and zoom out to avoid crashes about two-thirds of the time. lmao. It’s not a full solution yet, but I can keep playing for now. Right now I have 4K players on Mars and I’m maintaining around 117 FPS even when running at 4K max settings.
