I clearly recall visiting my friend's place where he had an AMD system equipped with a 5-core processor. It seemed unusual at the time, especially since CPUs were typically available in 2 or 4 core models. Recently, I attempted to research the specific platform but found limited information. This machine likely dates back to the late 2000s or early 2010s. Do you know anything about it?

I didn’t locate any information about 5-core and AMD processors. I haven’t come across reports of a penta-core CPU from Intel until recently, when a 2020 model was announced.

I recall just one odd number: three-core CPUs.

It could be a 6-core AMD CPU where he restored functionality by reactivating one of the two inactive cores, allowing performance to reach 5. The FX lineup is mentioned as part of the context.

They offered models like Athlon X2, X3, X4 and later the Phenom X6. In certain regions, faulty Phenom X6 units were mistakenly labeled as X5, though this isn't confirmed officially. It seems more common to see discarded parts being resold as new.

It might have been a Phenom X6 with a disabled core for enhanced overclocking potential? These units can crank up performance significantly (my Phenom II X4 runs at 3.2 by default and easily hits 4.2 when OCs are enabled, while turning off cores unlocks even higher speeds).

Here’s a revised version of your text:

The provided link contains Cinebench R15 scores for five-core processors. According to HWBot guidelines, disabled cores aren't permitted. It seems the system mainly uses AMD X4 CPUs, with one extra core enabled—such as the AMD Phenom II X4 960T, AMD Phenom II X4 840T, and AMD Athlon II X4 645T (Zosma). A newer model mentioned is the Pentium Gold 8505, which offers 1 processor plus 4 extra cores.
