I understand it's an older machine, but I'm seeking the quickest and most reliable RAM option. Any suggestions? It might be challenging to justify spending on such a device.

Turn it upside down and pull the panels apart until you locate the one with the RAM slot below it—typically a vented panel secured by a few screws. You'll see two slots: one for a 2GB stick and another for a 1GB stick. Grab the 2GB stick, review its details, look for a model that matches its specs as closely as possible, and place an order. Swap it in for the existing 1GB stick. You've just upgraded your memory—just a heads-up, this guide isn’t encouraging you to invest. There’s likely more parts at risk, and the upgrade might not make much difference. DDR2 SODIMM can also be costly depending on where you find it.
