What are the Passmark ratings?
My 5-year-old desktop has scores around the mid-6000s, which should be more than sufficient for most users.
8 GB of RAM shouldn’t pose a problem.
I might focus more on the screen, but based on size and general description it’s hard to judge much—your eyes might like it while hers might not.
Can you assess a potential idea and return it if you’re not satisfied? Especially regarding the screen size? A 15-inch model could be better than a 17-inch one?
Recent integrated video support should work well for a non-gaming, general-purpose machine.
Consider vendor return policies in case she’s unhappy by December 29th.
Warranty details? Any keyboard quirks? I’m not sure if keyboards feel the same across all laptops.

Here are the passmark scores. We can definitely think about returning, but it feels strange to do so.
It seems fine with the setup. The AMD has six cores, while the Intel has four. The AMD gets a slightly higher overall rating. The Intel performs marginally better in single-threaded tasks. You should probably go with what suits you, unless there are any negative updates or feedback. Your choice is welcome.
From a performance standpoint? I’d definitely agree.

You can picture many things that would annoy her—screen, keyboard, Windows 11 quirks, small ergonomic issues, this port doesn’t seem to function; complete failure of a key component; DOA; I dislike this antivirus, the built-in webcam is average, the production line supervisor had a bad day, the quality control inspector was heavily intoxicated and a bit of a dork, I had to reach out to Customer Service and they were unkind, and it went on like that.
But looking at it purely in terms of specs and power, I don’t see any problems.
