Hey there, I'm trying to capture gameplay with Dxtory, but the standard settings are hogging a lot of space—about 1GB in just 10 seconds. My SSD isn't handling that fast. Could anyone suggest some better codecs or methods? Thanks a lot!

Check the system details? Are you okay with color precision? Would you prefer a lossless format?

I work with Lagarith in its simplest color setting. I mostly use Planetside 2 and haven’t experienced frame drops. Neither the CPU nor the HDD speed affects me—my dedicated 500GB Scorpio Blue drive handles video capture and editing. Most files over an hour are around 120 GB, but I compress them with Handbrake, reducing size by about tenfold. You might find some Dxtory guides helpful?

They aren't recommended because they reduce performance and offer better compression based on your configuration.

You're asking about the recording settings and performance issues. The mode you're using likely affects how the codec handles compression and multithreading, which can influence frame rates on your storage device.

I run YV12 with an i5 processor, so I don’t need HT. Are you placing the recovery file on the Samsung HDD? Do you have the game also stored on that drive? Remember to navigate to Advanced Settings, select "Use 4 threads," and click the bottom windows at the far right. Ensure your screen resolution matches and the frame rate aligns with the movie cap setting in the main window. Dxtory also offers a feature to recover from multiple drives.

Consider using UT Video Codec—it's a lossless format that works well with file size efficiency if you reduce color depth. You can get it from: http://umezawa.dyndns.info/archive/utvideo/ Authors' site: http://umezawa.dyndns.info/wordpress/ Wiki on the codec: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/UT-Video

Lagarith performs well and delivers compact code. Sizes are significantly reduced.
