I was browsing an Asus Maximus II Formula board and noticed the 16 GB memory listed. It surprised me when I checked the memory support options. Samsung offers 4 GB non-ecc, unbuffered DDR2 sticks. I tried searching on eBay but didn’t find any matching, only specific AMD RAM listings. If you locate a suitable one, I’d be happy to help you with the purchase.

It appears it's just a single server. I noticed 4GB sticks, but they were packaged as 32GB bundles, which means 4 sticks at 8GB each.

It's not designed for desktops, but it works on some systems. The Asus page mentions compatibility with certain models, while eBay lists it only for AMD.
