Hello. I plan to assemble a new PC. The LGA 2011 platform stood out due to affordable Xeon options. Several motherboard designs caught my interest, with Huananzhi being the most notable, though many variants exist under that brand. I'm curious about their distinctions—advantages and disadvantages, overclocking support, and more. Thanks. For more info, visit the manufacturer's site: http://www.huananzhi.com/html/1/183/index.html

What? It seems most Xeons run on the LGA2011 platform. Or maybe I misinterpreted your response.

LGA 2011 and LGA 2011-3 are linked to X79 and X99 chipsets but cannot be used together due to CPU incompatibility. For instance, an i7-4930K won't fit on an X99 board, and an i7-5820K won't work on an X79 board. Both feature 2011 connectors at the rear, yet they belong to different support generations.

I'm evaluating a budget workstation setup. The boards you're interested in feature E5 V3 CPUs, while the X79 models use E5 V2. The main distinction among x99 boards lies in their PCI slot configurations, though compatibility with both DDR3 and DDR4 RAM varies. I've focused on the Gaming X99-TF board due to its versatility. It supports both DDR3 and DDR4 RAM, enabling flexible upgrades—especially as DDR4 becomes more affordable and top-tier models become less expensive. Regarding CPUs, my options include: 2620 v3 with DDR4 only (currently $14 USD), 2640 v3 with DDR4 only ($2,680), 2678 V3 with both DDR3 and DDR4 ($1,000), and several others ranging from $100. The most affordable V3 option that supports DDR3 is likely the E5-2678 v3 or similar models listed. Based on available information, these are the only V3 Xeons compatible with either DDR3 or DDR4.

We're focusing on the types of CPUs you're thinking about and their intended purposes. Often, budget motherboards pair well with great CPU offers, meaning you might not always achieve optimal performance from an older Xeon compared to a Ryzen CPU.

I intend to purchase the E5 2650 V2. My workflow involves video editing, 3D work, and gaming, so I’ll secure an RX 580 with 8GB RAM when rates drop.

The price of this CPU relative to a used Ryzen 7 1700/2700 is worth examining closely. Chinese X79 boards remain pricier than solid AMD B450 options, suggesting a potential cost advantage elsewhere. A direct comparison would clarify the value.
