It seems AMD bears responsibility for the design that makes removal difficult, especially if you're unfamiliar with CPU cooling solutions. Those who have experience should be aware of common removal methods—warming the chip and carefully twisting or prying it out. Even if you forcefully removed it, the pins don’t simply bend on their own; physical impact likely caused the damage.
These pins need a few hours of work to get back to working condition. I’ve fixed more complicated issues before. The issue with newer AMD chips is that the pins are slightly smaller, so extra care is needed. Bent pins on the PCB are most likely to break when you try to straighten them. It’s hard to say who’s at fault here. We should avoid blaming the LGA design, as it’s just as fragile and many people have bent pins by dropping the CPU or using a dirty rag. In short, it’s just something that can happen.

I’d really appreciate some extra engineering insight on AMD’s retention system. I recently experienced a similar issue with my 3700X—its socket popped out while it was stuck to the cold plate of my Dark Rock Pro 4. Fortunately, nothing got bent, and this was the first time it happened with any of my AMD rigs (starting from socket 939). Usually I’d twist the cooler before taking it off, but that wasn’t an option because the DRP4 was right next to my case fans. It took me around five minutes of very gentle, controlled nudging to safely remove it.

Also, next time give it a twist before pulling your heatsink off, thought this was common knowledge since like the old phenom days.
From my understanding, on AM socket connections, lowering the lever causes the board to slide, and friction helps secure the pins. Intel and AMD ThreadRipper both physically lock the CPU in place. Owning CPUs from Intel’s 478 (previous AMD PGA designs) through AMD A-sockets and up to AM3+ means you should remove the cooler when the heatsink is still warm—like letting the system run quietly in Windows or doing a stress test. Avoid removing the cooler while the CPU is cold; that’s likely a mistake. If you bend the pins on an Intel LGA board, support would advise fixing them yourself or replacing the board. They won’t accept a return for it. There are many bent pins near the edges, but AMD CPUs have sturdier pins than Intel’s thin ones. Use a firm edge, tweezers, or a mechanical pencil to straighten them carefully so they match the original. If the pins are only slightly bent, they should realign themselves. I once straightened pins on a couple AM2 CPUs after my brother accidentally dropped one—he was playing HOT POTATO!
