You're looking for an AM5 motherboard this fall, but finding one that fits your 7800X3D setup is proving tricky. Most recommendations warn against certain brands or boards, like ASUS B650, due to coil whine concerns. You mentioned you're not an overclocker and mainly need stable performance for gaming. You want something reliable with good support, at least a Gen 5 NVMe slot, and a Gen 4 chipset. PCIe 5.0 isn't essential right now since GPUs are already 4.0, but it's worth considering if you plan future upgrades. Your budget stays around $200 unless you're willing to spend more for long-term value.

The popular AM5 boards include the Aorus B650 Gaming and Elite, priced between $200 and $220 higher than the X670 series.

I steered clear of Gigabyte because they appeared to face a deeper issue with the SoC voltage compared to ASUS. Specifically, it tends to rise too high during POST before the BIOS activates, which can stress the CPU over time. Adjusting it in the BIOS wasn’t always reliable either. ASUS has improved significantly now, and I’m more confident using them since they’ve avoided such major missteps recently. Problems usually arise when vendors become complacent.

Fascinating, I haven't seen any documentation about dead CPUs on Gigabyte boards since they list SoC voltage in specs. Perhaps wear might affect the CPU over time. On the Asus side, the non-M B650 Strix seems appealing at $220—it even offers more PCIe slots compared to the Aorus Elite, which is quite limited.

Recommendations? This only confirmed my argument—it seems there’s always a problem, no matter where I look. I get that ASUS had issues about six months ago, so fixing things now makes sense. But I’m still unsure which MOBO fits my needs best. Should I go with the B650, X670, or B650E? Which brand and model is right for me? Is PCIe 5.0 worth it if I plan to keep the system for at least five years? It’s a lot of questions, and it really tires you when you keep searching and finding conflicting advice.

I faced some problems earlier with my MSI board being a bit unpredictable with the RAM EXPO, but that was mostly my fault because I accidentally installed Samsung B Die, which is the worst DDR5 option. Still, it’s been quite stable since I updated the BIOS about two months ago. I’m really pleased with this because it was one of the most affordable choices. The chipset issues are now resolved as long as you install the latest BIOS—definitely worth doing. Keep an eye on this. To sum up, everything is fine except for the ASUS boards, which have completely broken the VRM setup.

The rog strix b650e-f appears good overall and meets all my expectations based on what I see online. Have you encountered any problems with it under the current BIOS settings? Specifically, does the RAM operate smoothly at 6000MHz? Are there any known stability concerns? I'm using Gskill Z5 Neo CL30 6000MHz.

Hynix memory performs significantly better than Samsung on AM5 platforms. You're in good shape. The board also features a 12-phase 60A VRM design, avoiding many of the problems common with budget ASUS options.

The MSI MAG b650 tomahawk could be a viable choice since it's significantly more affordable compared to other models, though it doesn't support PCIe 5.0 or Gen 5 M.2 slots (likely only Gen 4). For long-term use, upgrading to a premium motherboard seems wise.
