Screen went blank during gameplay, followed by another issue!
Hey, I see you're experiencing some issues. It seems this problem started after downloading Assetto Corsa. In that game, you notice a green screen that returns to normal, but it also happens in another game called Squad. You've played Squad for a while and haven't had this before, unlike your experience with League of Legends. It appears Steam games might be the cause. I don't think your PC was cleaned recently, and the thermal paste hasn't been changed in a while. The issue only appeared after restarting your PC, showing an error about CPU overheating. Despite this, your PC is still running well and the CPU specs look fine. The image attached is for reference.
Have you had a chance to check your CPU temperatures while playing and with the green screen issue? In any case, I believe the quickest fix right now is focusing on hardware aspects—cleaning your PC, ensuring your cooling system works properly (especially fans), and replacing the thermal paste. At least try the first two steps, and see if things stabilize if you can’t replace the paste immediately. Still, it’s a good idea to do it soon.
Thanks for the quick response. Indeed, the first two steps are essential. As you noticed, it looks quite dirty. The cooler is stock, so if I can determine whether a better one will resolve the issue, it would be great. Initially, I plan to clean and replace the paste—I used thermal paste before. Do they list an expiration date? Sorry, it might take 2-3 days for anyone reading this to see if it helps. I won’t be home, so I’ll do it when I get there. Also, please note different solutions and write them down. Regarding steam games, if someone has problems with them, it usually happens only when playing on Steam. Perhaps something is loading the CPU very slowly, which is typical for Steam games.
It's unclear if the paste lasts long, but cleaning and cooling systems are important. Steam might just be a coincidence—your tested games could have been demanding, while others weren't. I'm not sure.
It could be, Squad is the most challenging among the three games I've played. However, I haven't faced any issues with it until I started using Assetto Corsa. Even though it's an older title, the performance improved significantly once I installed it. The new thermal paste I cleaned up will work well when I return to the main menu. I'll update this post after applying the changes.
I applied thermal paste, cleaned everything, and connected the PC. It runs smoothly with no noise or green screen. When I tried to shut it down, Windows Update appeared. I ran Update & Shutdown. After sleeping, this morning I restarted and the green screen reappeared briefly. I downloaded HWMonitor and checked temperatures—CPU readings were normal at 25-35°C. I suspect the frequent Windows Update might be the issue. In cmd, I ran a chkdsk command and restarted. I also swapped HDMI cables—connected HDMI 2 to HDMI 1 and then HDMI 1 to HDMI 1. Now the green screen is gone, unlike yesterday. After the update, I restarted again and everything worked properly. I’m still unsure what caused it, but I deleted the Windows Update cleanup from Disk Cleanup.
