Screen turns black during Windows 10 startup.
I recently tested a 1660 on my machine, installed all the necessary drivers. Once removed, everything functions properly, but when Windows starts, the monitor goes into standby. The keyboard and mouse remain responsive. I’m not sure what to do next.
What processor do you have? Does it include an integrated graphics card so you can restart into Windows and check the event logs? If not, do you have or can you get another GPU quickly? Once you're back on a functional desktop, open Event Viewer and go to Windows Logs > System. Scroll through the entries and look for any clues that might explain what's happening. I'm sure you'll find many error messages indicating nvlddmkm has stopped working. Unfortunately, your display driver is crashing. If you've already tried reinstalling the drivers, my next step would be to install Windows again, as this suggests a software problem rather than a hardware failure. If the issue continues, it's probably a hardware problem, possibly a failing GPU.
It seems you're asking about the use of a black screen and an iGPU. Could you clarify what you mean? Are you referring to a specific setup or process?
But with my old HDD and old GPU, instead of the screen going black it displays: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation can't continue. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, then restart the installation. After clicking "OK" my computer restarts again, but the same error appears??? I've noticed this also happens with my SSD now. Edited January 28, 2024 by Ridoheru
