Screen turns black and the cursor shifts position following the Windows 8.1 update.
Upcoming Windows 10 release prompted an attempt to apply the latest Windows 8.1 patches. After updating and restarting, my system displayed a flickering black screen with the mouse visible only when moved. Standard fixes like CTRL+ALT+DEL failed, so I resorted to performing a system restore. I attempted to isolate specific updates but most caused issues. I tried downloading only the manual Windows 10 update (KB2919442 → KB2919355), but it indicated incompatibility. Running SFC /scannow succeeded only for MSDTC.LOG, while dism.exe found nothing. Some online solutions suggested tweaking NVIDIA drivers, though I use an AMD graphics card and have no drivers installed. System restore results vary—once it was about 45 updates, now it’s around 10, with only three updates currently installed. I’ve attached screenshots for reference. Please help me preserve Windows 10 as soon as possible.
Consider reviewing the drivers for your motherboard and switch to GPU graphics in your BIOS. Make sure to update the AMD drivers as well.
