Screen turns black after upload, but files are running.
Hey everyone, I recently assembled a new PC. When powered on, it emits one beep and displays the splash screen, but then the screen goes dark immediately. Pressing F2 or Del takes me to the BIOS, which also shows a black screen. Selecting F8 brings up the boot menu, but only the "Enter Setup" option appears, and choosing it results in a black display. When I connect a USB drive with a Linux installation ISO, booting from it gives a fully functional GRUB interface, yet selecting any option causes a kernel panic. I have four drives connected: one NVMe SSD, two SATA SSDs (one running Windows, the other Linux), and one HDD. The motherboard is an Asus B650-Plus with a Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, Radeon 6800 GPU, Corsair RM850X PSU (850W), and a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler. I’m unsure if the cooler helps with debugging these issues.
Have you transferred the old Windows installation to this drive? It’s on a SATA port, which isn’t too surprising. Are all devices listed in the BIOS? Some systems disable SATA ports when NVMe is connected, so verify that too. I’m not familiar with Linux, sorry.
I couldn't start beyond grub on this fresh installation. The system is using a SATA drive since my old machine lacked NVMe support, so I installed both operating systems there. The NVMe version I received last week for the new build works. I’m stuck on getting to BIOS—it causes a black screen—but in the boot menu none of the drives appear except the USB if it’s connected. Appreciate the help!
