Hi. My old Sony Vaio stopped working suddenly. Now when I turn it on, the BIOS sound plays but there’s no screen or any light. This happened after I lost internet and couldn’t connect to Wi-Fi, then started using a USB drive. Suddenly the laptop shut down, and pressing the power button again makes the BIOS sound, but still no display or backlight. Only the screen lights up when I use the USB hub. Earlier, about a month ago, opening it didn’t fix anything—just worked on its own. Last time it was fixed without any effort. Now I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong and find a permanent fix. It seems suitable for an older Vaio model. If this happens again, would you consider using an external monitor or TV to check if the laptop is actually running and producing any output? If so, you might be able to pinpoint the problem to a faulty display connector or the screen itself. Regarding the WiFi issue, it could stem from a loose connection on the WiFi module—a small rectangular stick attached to the motherboard—or possibly a failing motherboard overall.
These issues happen extremely infrequently, it has been years since the last occurrence. From the external monitor's perspective, I can set it up. My Amazon basic keyboard isn't working at all, even though it should be detected. It seems to stop working after some time. I've tried using the same keyboard on different laptops and it functions properly.
The CPU might be swappable, but issues with peripherals such as an external HDD, pendrive, or headphones suggest another problem. Consider this again.
I received positive updates right away—my laptop started, the BIOS recognized the keyboard, and I logged in successfully. After a short period, I noticed a message prompting installation of the UBS keyboard, which resolved the issue. However, after some time, the keyboard stopped responding again. I believe you're right; I can't operate the keyboard on the BIOS either. It's a shame I realized this late because my internal keyboard stopped working long ago due to removal and a damaged cable. The problem with the external keyboard is that it's not functioning properly.
It seems the cable connecting the GPU to the display is being disconnected each time you close and open your case, causing wear over time. The cost typically stays near $50, but you’ll need to learn how to install or replace it. You might find helpful tutorials on YouTube. Regarding the batteries—did you swap them? Or is this a cabled setup? It looks like a used one could be cheaper than repairing it.
