I recently upgraded my GTX 1060 to an RTX 3070 today. I’m experiencing a black screen when playing AAA games for more than two to three minutes, even though my PC components are still functioning—fans spinning, GPU active, etc. I have to force shut down to keep going.
Here are some observations:
* Everything works normally when idle and during basic games like Outlast or AAA titles at lower settings (1080p medium). However, with higher settings (1080p or 4K), the screen goes black after just two to three minutes.
* My GPU temperature is normal when it’s around 75-76 degrees, but it gets too hot very quickly (within three minutes). I haven’t checked if the CPU is overheating.
* My main concern is the power supply unit. It’s a 600-watt unit and isn’t certified, which makes me think it might not be sufficient.
* Even though all components are running, there’s no display when the screen goes black.
So, is the issue related to the PSU or overheating? How can I confirm or check this?
I have 16GB DDR4 RAM, an i5-10400F processor, and an MSI B460M-A Pro.
This 320W PSU (27 * 12 = 324W on 12V rail) clearly isn't sufficient.
It won't support the RTX 3070.
You should aim for at least a 550W PSU (46A on 12V rail).
If your RTX 3070 is already overclocked, you might need up to 750W.
Replace that poor PSU and enjoy peace of mind—your PC won't be damaged or your house will stay safe.

In contemporary systems, a 12V rail supplies energy for the CPU and GPU. Other voltage sources play a minor role.
