Screen flickers because my laptop is too slow to keep up with my monitor.
I have a setup that looks like this: my CPU is an i5 6600K running at 4.5 GHz with an aftermarket cooler. I bought a new RTX 2060 Super with 16 GB of RAM and an Acer G-Sync monitor that runs at 144 hz. Before getting here, I swapped out my old graphics card for this one. But lately, every time the game drops below 144 frames per second (my screen's native refresh rate), it looks really bad. Even if the games say they are running at 100 fps or even 80 fps, the visuals look like the game is stuttering at under 60 fps. I tried messing around with G-Sync and V-Sync, but nothing helped. This happens in old games like Starcraft 2 and Sudden Strike 4, and it's happening with newer ones too like Chivalry 2. Basically, if my game isn't running at 144 fps or just barely under, I see terrible performance that feels like the game is lagging at 30 fps, even though the counter shows 80 to 100 fps. My drivers are up to date. I took the CPU overclocking out completely and it didn't help. The computer doesn't get too hot; CPU temps stay well below 60 degrees Celsius even when running hard. My monitor is set to 144 hz with G-Sync enabled in both full screen and windowed mode, according to NVIDIA settings. What am I missing?
You can try reinstalling your graphics drivers with a clean start. If that does not work, you should turn off g-sync and make sure v-sync is set to adaptive.
